And the Birds Sing
The topic for this month’s essay has not yet made itself clear, so I am sitting down with this blank page and am offering up my typing services to the Universe by serving as a conduit for whatever collective message may be needed.
As I sit here quietly with solfeggio tunes playing in my ears, my heart whispers of the changing seasons, both externally and internally. Externally, the changing of the seasons is something we witness and can feel separate from, as if it is happening to us. Recently, I was reflecting on some internal changing seasons disguised as growing pains and wound-tending. While they too can feel like something happening to me, I was struck with the reminder that they are actually my answered prayers.
During my (somewhat) daily prayer work, I make big requests such as: being of deeply meaningful service; to heal not only this lifetime but all lifetimes and timelines; to receive and deliver clear messages; to not only recognize Beauty, Truth, and Love but to reside in it. The list goes on. When I am asking to be of service in this way, to fully awaken, I conveniently forget that the only way to reach this state of being seems to be through the muck that is my pain, to have light shined upon my unhealed places so that I can see them for what they are. It’s messy and I am learning that I am carrying so much more than I realized. Way deep in there are things that I thought I had already processed, things that feel ancestral and collective – not mine, but still mine.
Choosing to live this lifetime as a woman, it has taken me almost 60 years to realize that not only am I carrying the wounds that I have collected in this lifetime, but also those of my matriarchal line, and the collective feminine. Please breathe with me here. It’s a lot.
The senseless horror that has occurred on this planet is the stuff of nightmares. Anyone, regardless of gender, who has hurt another person should be held accountable for their actions. However, even when justice does appear to prevail, it doesn’t do our healing work for us.
The temptation to blame the patriarchy feels justified because just look at this mess. However, while they need to be held accountable and there needs to be an entirely new way for us to live in harmony with our planet and each other, blame has never healed anything. Additionally, what do we do with the very real possibility that these same men have most likely lived other lifetimes as victimized women and children? Do we dare ask ourselves how much of this collective pain we have caused through our unconscious actions in other lifetimes?
Lately, the rawness of my unhealed places has surprised me. I have been in touch with those wounds that I recognize and can guess at their origin story. Though, there are others that I feel deeply but also do not feel are directly tied to my personal experiences – mine, but not mine. It’s fascinating and a bit of a drag. Receiving the insight that I have been asking for this level of healing, does help me take a step back and recognize it for what it is: answers to my prayers. And, after rolling my eyes, I am left wondering how to move through this healing, releasing, and surrendering to the guidance I so clearly need.
When I ask my team how to proceed, I am reminded of that brilliant Einstein quote, “a problem cannot be solved on the same level on which it was created.” A changed perspective seems to be the answer: a new point of view where we are able to witness the live action on the stage that is our lives from a more comfortable distance. From this new perspective, we ask ourselves, “what if our wounds come bearing gifts?”
They definitely let us know that we are in need of healing, which is always the first step. Doing our work, we heal not only ourselves, but our ancestors, and the collective as well. As unfun as it can often be, this appears to be the work that we all came here to do.
On more than one occasion, my team has reminded me that the key is which identity we choose. Do we identify ourselves as mere humans with bodies in need of healing? Or, do we Know that we are divine beings here to facilitate the collective awakening by doing the work AND remembering that no harm can ever truly come to us? (Hint: the answer is the second one.)
If we choose to ignore the individual and collective pain, this is where spiritual bypassing can slip in, or willful ignorance depending upon the individual pain body’s level of sophistication. One is not better than the other because clearly, neither heals anything. It feels more in alignment with truth that our role is to stand in our divinity, while holding both the collective and the individual pain, offering it up for healing, and asking for help.
The vision that I am having at this moment is of the Divine Feminine standing with both hands outstretched. In one, she is holding the collective human experience and in the other, she is holding the collective divine truth. Her heart is wide open, beaming light so beautifully bright and far reaching that as she brings her hands together in prayer pose, all is transformed into a love-light so tender and warm that it awakens us from this ridiculous dream. Ever so slowly, she spins around and we see that standing back-to-back with her is the Divine Masculine. He has the same open heart, the same hands in prayer, the same healing light. Together, they whisper, “there is no separation.”
A collective wake up call.
A lovely dawn upon us,
and the birds sing.
